IATF is the new automotive standard, replacing ISO/TS.

Eastman Chemical Company, manufacturer of Saflex® product glazing for automotive applications has successfully completed the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949:2016 transition at all Saflex manufacturing sites from the previous quality management system, ISO/TS 16949.

“The IATF certification completion shows our commitment to customers supplying to the automotive industry by strengthening our quality management systems, focusing on better operations and supply to our customers,” said Thomas Selm, Product Director Eastman Advanced Materials Interlayers.

The IATF is the automotive industry’s most widely used international standard for quality management systems (QMS). IATF must be implemented as a supplement and in conjunction with ISO with a goal to develop a QMS that drives continual improvement.

The standard has many additional supplemental requirements from the generic ISO 9001 standard, with an emphasis in defect prevention, product safety, risk evaluation and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. Documented corporate responsibility policies are required as well.

A robust quality system which complies with the stringent requirements of IATF 16949 creates the foundation necessary to achieve operational excellence and meet or exceed customer expectations.
