Recently, the 23-meter-long tempered glass panels manufactured by NorthGlass were fully installed at Guangshang Tower and will soon be unveiled as part of the building’s completed façade.
At approximately 23 meters in height—equivalent to a seven-story building—each panel extends continuously from the ground level to the upper floors, creating a seamless glass façade with minimal visual interruption. Such dimensions offer architects greater design freedom, enhanced transparency, and a stronger connection between interior and exterior spaces.
However, manufacturing oversized glass is about far more than increasing dimensions.
As glass size grows, technical challenges increase exponentially. Maintaining optical quality, surface flatness, tempering uniformity, structural integrity, and installation precision becomes significantly more demanding. Even minor deviations can become highly visible when multiplied across a panel of this scale.
To ensure the performance and reliability of these oversized units, NorthGlass implemented strict quality control throughout the entire production process—from raw glass selection and precision edge processing to tempering optimization, heat soak treatment, and SGP laminated assembly. Every stage was carefully managed to meet the stringent requirements associated with ultra-large architectural glass.
For architects and façade engineers, the true value of oversized glass lies not simply in its dimensions, but in its ability to remain optically clear, structurally reliable, and visually flawless at unprecedented scale.
The successful application of 23-meter tempered glass at Guangshang Tower demonstrates how advances in glass processing technology continue to expand the possibilities of contemporary architecture, enabling larger, more transparent, and more ambitious building envelopes than ever before.
