Walker Glass is honored to receive USGlass Magazine’s 2019 Green Award for its AviProtek® E bird-safe low-e coated glass.

This award reinforces Walker’s position as the recognized leader in the bird-safe glass market. The 2019 Green Award follows several award-winning projects which incorporate Walker’s innovative AviProtek® line of glass products, including the Tropical Rainforest exhibit at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, PA, and the Oregon Zoo Education Center.

Walker’s commitment to bird safety continues in 2020, as its AviProtek® E with acid-etched visual markers on the exterior surface will be installed on the National Aviary’s new Garden Room, which is currently under construction and will serve as a venue for weddings, corporate events and educational classes.

“We are thrilled that AviProtek® E has been awarded the Green Product of the Year. The collaboration between Vitro and Walker on this product has provided us with the opportunity to offer a truly sustainable solution to this unfortunate bird deterrence issue. The combination of acid-etched visual markers on the exterior surface and Vitro Solarban® high performance coating makes AviProtek® E a unique solution,” states Danik Dancause, Walker’s Marketing Director.

Walker’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Charles Alexander goes on to say, “Walker has made a significant commitment to support sustainability and transparency with the release of EPDs, including one dedicated to bird-safe glass. With our daily involvement with the entire supply chain – architects, glaziers, fabricators and building owners – I’m hopeful that our product lines including the AviProtek® E, will answer to the needs of all market stakeholders as we push for a more sustainable world.”

“We are proud of this award as well as our long-time partnership with Walker Glass,” said Nathan McKenna, marketing manager, Vitro Architectural Glass. “AviProtek® E glass with Solarban low-e coatings supports sustainability in multiple ways, including the protection of wildlife and in enabling buildings to operate with more efficiently without sacrificing aesthetics. Those are core values for both companies and this product offers an ideal way to support the environment, architects and one another in achieving them.”
