In order to further reduce the carbon footprint of architectural glass, Glas Trösch will focus on thin glass solutions in the future.

To support this, the Swiss group has announced a collaboration with Corning Incorporated, one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science. The first product to be presented at BAU trade fair in Munich will be a prototype triple insulation glass.

This innovative triple insulating glass unit from Glas Trösch integrates Corning® ATG™ Glass as its center pane. At just 0.5 millimetres thick, this pane is significantly thinner and lighter than standard float glass. The glass reduces unit weight and features lower embedded carbon. Corning ATG also enables increased gas-cavity width, which leads to an improved Ug-value. The Glas Trösch Group is currently working intensively to build up adequate production capacities and carry out certifications. The first thin glass solutions are expected to be market-ready by the end of 2025.

‘We are very pleased about this collaboration. Corning’s outstanding technical know-how, combined with our modern production facilities, will enable us to offer an even broader range of sustainable glass solutions with Swiss quality in the future,’ says Fabian Zwick, CEO of Glas Trösch Group.

Ron Verkleeren, Senior Vice President, Emerging Innovations Group, Corning, adds: We are delighted to work with an industry leader like Glas Trösch to bring high-quality, lightweight, and energy-efficient solutions to customers in Europe, with a significantly lower carbon footprint. This is an important win for the environment and for customers, as it will benefit both new and existing buildings.’

In addition to triple insulating glass, Glas Trösch plans to introduce further thin glass products as part of this collaboration.
