Thiele Glas enhances its quality control with the installation of the Temper Scanner by Viprotron.

Thiele Glas has further strengthened its quality assurance processes at the exit of its tempering furnace. With the installation of the Temper Scanner from Viprotron, the glass processor is relying on a highly advanced measurement system for the detection of white haze, distortion, and anisotropy.

Following an in-depth evaluation, Thiele Glas selected Viprotron’s modular scanner system. Key factors in the decision included complete edge detection in distortion measurement, high accuracy in anisotropy detection, and the system’s flexible expandability.

The system was developed in close cooperation between Thiele Glas and the Viprotron engineering team.

What makes the scanner special?

The Temper Scanner features up to five detection channels. Three channels are used for furnace optimization by measuring distortion, anisotropy, and white haze. Two additional channels detect defects that occur before tempering, such as scratches or coating defects.

The Temper Scanner 5D version also offers a customizable user interface as well as layer maps for heating and cooling zones, enabling fast root-cause analysis. The expandable channel architecture allows future hardware upgrades without the need to replace the entire system.

According to the developers, these performance features enable rapid furnace optimization, increased process efficiency, and sustainable cost savings.

Sandra Kugler, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Viprotron, commented:
“We are proud to support Thiele Glas in this important step toward enhanced quality assurance. The close collaboration has resulted in a system that elevates precision, efficiency, and future readiness to a new level.”

Today, the Temper Scanner 5D is fully integrated into production and supports Thiele Glas in continuously ensuring high-quality standards in glass processing.
