Quality Assurance from the Start: Flachglas Schweiz Relies on the Temper Scanner 5D

With the establishment of its own tempered glass production, Flachglas Schweiz faced the challenge of reliably monitoring and comprehensively documenting the quality of its glass products. To meet its customers' high quality standards, the company chose Viprotron's Temper Scanner 5D right from the start.

As Flachglas Schweiz had not previously operated its own tempered glass production, the new production line needed to be supported by reliable and precise quality inspection from day one. The main priorities were consistently high product quality and comprehensive optical inspection of the glass produced. Particular attention was given to quality characteristics such as various types of distortion, edge kink, white haze, and anisotropy.

In addition, the company further processes fully tempered glass and heat-strengthened glass into laminated safety glass, making the corresponding inspection data from the scanner essential.

The decision to choose Viprotron was primarily based on the company's technical expertise and the long-standing partnership in the field of insulating glass production. During the project planning phase, installation and commissioning were closely coordinated between Flachglas Schweiz, the furnace manufacturer, and Viprotron. Integration into the existing ERP system was also successfully completed in close cooperation with the software provider.

Another important part of the project was employee training. Especially when introducing a new manufacturing process, comprehensive training is essential. Following the training sessions, the furnace operators and their teams were able to quickly integrate the Temper Scanner into their daily production routines and make effective use of its functions.

Reliable Quality Inspection in Daily Production

Today, the Temper Scanner is used for both process monitoring and quality approval. The system inspects the produced glass panes for optical defects, distortions, anisotropy, and white haze. If required, each individual pane can also be checked for dimensional accuracy.

Another advantage is the integrated plausibility check, which ensures that the produced glass panes match the stored order data. At the same time, the recorded inspection results enable complete traceability throughout production and can be made available to customers upon request.

The Temper Scanner also plays an important role in continuously optimizing production processes. Based on the collected measurement data, potential quality deviations can be identified at an early stage, allowing the corresponding process parameters of the tempering furnace to be adjusted accordingly. In this way, the system supports employees in maintaining consistently high glass quality while also improving downstream production processes.

In addition to the benefits for quality assurance, Flachglas Schweiz also considers the investment a success from an economic perspective. Automated inspection reduces the time required for visual glass inspection. At the same time, the company benefits from increased process reliability, less rework, and inspection data that is readily available for documentation and traceability.
