Affordable low-e, low-iron glass honored in Glass category of annual product awards.

Solarban® Acuity™ low-emissivity (low-e), low-iron glass by Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) has been honored by The Architect’s Newspaper with a “Best of Products” award in the Glass category.

“Vitro gives designers another tool to show that they care for our environment,” said Jonathan Moody, chief executive officer, Moody Nolan architects, and a juror in this year’s awards. “It gives us the ability to push both high performance and aesthetic forward.”

The award was first announced on September 25 on archpaper.com, where the full list of winners is available. Each product category recognized one winner and two honorable mentions. The Architect’s Newspaper has also published a “Best of Products 2020” digital booklet; the publication’s December issue will feature the winners in print.

The Solarban® Acuity™ low-e low-iron glass series was introduced in 2019 as an engineered system developed for exterior applications from office buildings and mixed-use vision glazing to entrances and storefronts. Combining the color fidelity of new, affordable Acuity™ low-iron glass with the performance of the Solarban® family of low-e glasses, this affordable glass system allows architects to realize more ambitious façades, on budget and on time.

“Vitro research made clear that architects really need an affordable, coated low-iron option,” said Nathan McKenna, marketing and innovation manager, Vitro Architectural Glass. “With Solarban® Acuity™ glass, we’ve achieved true low-iron clarity at a price point that is feasible for virtually any façade or vision glazing application.”

“We thank The Architect’s Newspaper and the jury for the recognition,” he added.

Vitro market research indicates the installed cost of a standard glass and metal curtainwall averages $90 per square foot nationally. Upgrading a low-e coated clear insulating glass unit (IGU) to a Solarban® Acuity™ glass unit typically will increase the total installed curtainwall cost by only $1 to $2 per square foot.
