RIOU Glass accelerates its development in Europe by acquiring Vidresif

The specialist in insulating glazing with high energy and environmental performance has just finalized the 100% acquisition of the glass processor Vidresif based in Porqueres, north of Girona (Catalonia). Through this new external growth operation, RIOU Glass is launching in the Spanish market and carrying out its second-largest introduction.

RIOU Glass signs the second major acquisition since the creation of the family business in 1979. After Italy and Belgium, the ETI of Normandy origin has just signed on October 19 the 100% takeover of its Spanish counterpart Vidresif. Thanks to this new strategic acquisition - carried out as part of the RIOU GLASS VERRE 2025 development plan - the specialist in flat glass processing is taking its first steps in Spain. With an annual turnover of 25 million euros, and a total workforce of 115 employees, Vidresif becomes the second-largest industrial site out of the twenty-three that make up the group behind RIOU Glass VIP, the historic factory based in Boulleville (Normandy). The acquisition of Vidresif will allow RIOU Glass to penetrate the Spanish market and thus gain market share in the territory, but also to strengthen its value proposition by expanding its offer of glass products to Spanish and border customers with France.

A consolidated industrial process

Created in 1994 by the founding couple Joan Sánchez Mauri and Carmen Acedo, Vidresif has established itself in less than thirty years as a leading player in the North and East of Spain thanks to industrial investments which have enabled it to expand its glassmaking expertise. In 2003, Vidresif was the first company in the country to equip itself with a “Jumbo” assembly line making it possible to produce large glazing for the facade market (6000 x 3210 mm). Over the years, the Catalan glassmaker has developed a fully consolidated industrial process at its 15,000 m2 factory located in Porqueres, 25 km north of Girona, where 175,000 m2 of insulating glazing is processed per year. From there, Vidresif manufactures and markets the most designer products - thanks to its mastery of digital printing - the most technical and large glasses for the architecture and construction sectors: tempered, laminated, decorative, solar-controlled, acoustic… In addition to the Porqueres factory, Vidresif has a logistics platform on the Balearic Islands allowing it to serve the local market. The company's portfolio of industrial clients extends from Catalonia, Andorra, the Balearic Islands to the Levant.

“We are delighted to welcome Vidresif and its teams to RIOU Glass. This strategic merger is the expression of our desire to continue the development of RIOU Glass in Europe. Vidresif's know-how, consolidated on a unique and ultra-modern site, is a real asset. It allows us to strengthen our value proposition both with Spanish companies and our French clients,” says Christine Riou Feron, President of RIOU Glass.

“RIOU Glass is an independent group, a producer, and processor whose reputation is well established. There are numerous synergies with great growth prospects which will, I am sure, ensure the sustainability of our know-how,” underlines Joan Sánchez Mauri, Managing Director of Vidresif.
