Alongside Governor Whitmer, LuxWall celebrates opening of new advanced glass production facility, part of $165-million investment in Michigan creating 450+ local jobs.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer today joined LuxWall, Inc., CEO Scott Thomsen and state and local officials to officially open the company’s new clean-energy manufacturing compound in Litchfield, which will host the world’s first high-volume vacuum-insulating glass production facilities. The Litchfield site features automated manufacturing, quality control, office space and laboratories to produce advanced, energy-efficient window products that will be sold to residential and commercial customers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

“Clean energy is powering job growth and the future of advanced manufacturing right here in Michigan thanks to American companies like Luxwall,” said Governor Whitmer. “Michigan is serious about leading the future of cars, chips, and clean technology, and building the future of American energy with American workers. We have brought supply chains home and won exciting new projects across Michigan. We’ll keep working hard to deliver results for workers in Michigan and make our state the best place to invest in a bright future.”

“We’re proud to expand our operations in Michigan with our Litchfield facility and a future site in Detroit,” said Scott Thomsen, CEO of LuxWall. “The support we received from the state of Michigan, the U.S. Department of Energy and all our local and community partners was essential to our journey here. We’re excited to be manufacturing energy efficient products that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in the built environment here in Michigan.

LuxWall’s new site, first announced by Governor Whitmer in July 2023, is part of a two-phase, $165-million investment from LuxWall that will create 450 jobs in the state. The company is finalizing a site in Detroit for its second facility.

These projects represent a huge win for Michigan, which provided a $6-million performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program. The company also received over $31 million in federal cost sharing from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Affordable Clean Energy Plan.

“I’m pleased to welcome LuxWall’s investment in Michigan as our state leads in clean technology innovation that leads to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in highly advanced manufacturing,” said Quentin L. Messer, Jr., CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Today’s celebration marks an important milestone in Michigan’s journey towards a cleaner, healthier, and more energy efficient future while creating over 450 good paying jobs. We appreciate the efforts of our local partners, legislature for providing us with the tools to compete for and win this project and the collective Team Michigan as we continue to win projects, revitalize places, and invest in people so everyone can Make it in Michigan. We are excited about LuxWall’s and Michigan’s futures.”

The opening event coincided with the second anniversary of the historic Biden-Harris administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. The administration’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan has already spurred over 20,000 new jobs and $25 billion new clean energy projects in the state.

The event was facilitated by Clean Energy for America Education Fund, a network of clean energy business leaders, workers and advocates driven by a common goal: growing good paying jobs and lowering costs for consumers.

“Thanks to investments in America’s clean energy economy, LuxWall is creating 450 new jobs in Michigan,” said Andrew Reagan, executive director of Clean Energy for America Education Fund. “Workers and families across the country are benefitting from the clean energy transition with new jobs and cost savings. Today’s ribbon cutting shows those benefits in action.”
