The building materials specialist is continuing its expansion in Egypt with the launch of two new production capacities.

Saint-Gobain announces two new production capacities in Egypt to further accelerate its profitable growth in the country:

  • The inauguration of a second float glass production line in Ain Sokhna, operated through a joint venture between Saint-Gobain and Şişecam, doubling the site’s capacity.
  • The launch of a new plasterboard manufacturing facility in Sadat City in November, strategically located within Egypt’s key urban development corridor. The facility is integrated with the Group’s existing plaster line to create a comprehensive gypsum solutions hub, enhancing service to customers.

Saint-Gobain has been present in Egypt since 2006, operates 4 major manufacturing hubs, employs 900 people and generates annual revenues of around €150 million, which have tripled over the past 8 years. With these investments, the Group, a key partner in local construction ecosystems – particularly among architects and contractors – broadens its presence in the country into plasterboard, to expand beyond its leading positions in glass, plaster and construction chemicals.

The Egyptian construction market benefits from supportive megatrends, including strong demographic growth and urbanization needs, with the country planning to build 37 new smart cities by 2050 to meet the 30% increase in its 120 million population expected over the period.

With these investments, Saint-Gobain is further strengthening its position as the leader in light and sustainable construction in Egypt, a high-growth country.

These investments are fully aligned with Saint-Gobain’s “Lead & Grow” strategic plan, which aims to accelerate profitable growth.
