At glasstec, specialty chemicals company Kuraray is presenting an innovative solution for automakers: an illuminated panoramic glass roof that, with colorful, high-resolution patterns, opens up entirely new possibilities for evocative lighting design in the vehicle interior (Hall 10/H48).
At the Kuraray booth, visitors can experience how glass roofs can glow in a wide variety of colors thanks to a SkyViera® film interlayer—creating an individual vehicle ambiance.
The SkyViera® PVB film is first printed with the desired high-resolution pattern and then laminated between two glass panes using standard industrial processes. An optical coupling technology, in combination with LEDs, ensures that light is guided through the SkyViera® film and distributed throughout the glass roof. A panoramic roof with SkyViera® is almost completely transparent during the day, but glows in any desired color after dark.
A glass roof whose transparent pattern glows in millions of colors
Indian automaker Mahindra is the first OEM to equip two model lines with an illuminated panoramic roof based on Kuraray’s SkyViera® technology: the BE6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs. Their “Infinity Roof,” developed in collaboration between Mahindra and Kuraray, allows users to select predefined lighting themes or choose from a palette of more than 16 million color combinations. A dynamic mode can even synchronize the colors and lighting effects with the music playing in the vehicle.
Thanks to its unparalleled design flexibility, Kuraray’s SkyViera® technology now offers all OEMs the opportunity to create unique lighting experiences through their glass roofs—with custom, illuminated designs.
