On March 24, Glass for Europe introduced MEP Christian Doleschal, rapporteur on the revision of the Construction Product Regulation, to the world of flat glass during a visit to the NSG plant in Weiherhammer.

A float plant is the perfect setting to better understand the flat glass sector’s realities and the link between manufacturing and placing on the market construction products such as glazing. During the visit, Glass for Europe highlighted the need to ensure that all current simplified procedures are kept in the future CPR framework. Cutting administrative burdens is key for both flat glass manufacturers and the thousands of transformers and processors across the value chain, mostly SMEs. The relevance of developing an efficient digital ecosystem was also stressed. Deploying a machine-readable and decentralised data system to manage the tens of thousands of glazing types available on the market is of utmost importance.

As stated in his draft IMCO report, MEP Christian Doleschal confirmed that establishing an effective regulative framework for construction products is a shared concern.

MEP Christian Doleschal and his colleagues were accompanied by NSG plant and production managers along one of the 2 float lines which was recently rebuilt.
