We are OSSE, and we come from the University of Turku.

OSSE stands for Organic Semiconductor Materials for Sustainable Electronics.

We are here at the Glass Performance Days for the first time. And we are really happy; we got a lot of good comments and connections, and we are looking for mentors and people who can invest in our new material.

This project is all about sustainability – how we can make smart glass more sustainable, remove complexity in smart glass structures, remove multiple layers and have multiple functions more simply integrated into one single material system to fix the cost and the environmental issues.

Our material is organic based. Not an inorganic one that is normally used in most applications. We are fully organic, zero waste, and solvents are not used in our technology. So the technology is simple and cost effective.

We started in 2016 with our first innovation. And today, we enable organic semiconductors for the application in the smart glass industry.

Our process, simplicity, the reduction in cost, the eco-friendly material, all those things make our solution unique. Compared to inorganic materials, which come from mining practices, pretty much fixed to geographies, our solution doesn’t rely on the geographical supply chain issues. This provides much more freedom in the smart glass industry.

As it is an organic material, it can be applied to different kinds of substrates – not just glass. It can be also a flexible substrate or fabric. And since we operate at low temperatures and atmospheric pressure, we can also deposit on delicate substrates like paper and plastics, which cannot withstand high temperatures.

At the University of Turku, we do our development work, but there are always limitations with resources or the tools and technology. And now it’s 2025, and we are here at GPD.

And a big thank you to Glaston, who gave us an opportunity to participate in the Step Change program and meet a lot of really important people. We received a lot of guidance from Glaston, especially from Marko Mökkönen. He is also on the steering group of our project and supported us strongly.
