The façade of a building is often the most important from a design perspective, as it sets the tone for the rest of the building.

And when the façade is glass, there are a number of considerations to understand aesthetics and performance. In fact, it is a complex matter that involves levels of internal and external reflection, colours and changes in different light conditions.

A new product from Guardian Glass helps architects address some of these challenges and achieve their designs in new and stunning ways.

“While glass appears clear, its placement and surroundings can provide obstacles to the view in the form of excessive glare or reflections. Guardian Clarity™ is our solution to this problem,” says Andras Kovacs, Product Manager at Guardian Glass.

“Using advanced glass coating technology, our anti-reflective glass opens up new design possibilities in structural glazing applications, where reflections can spoil the benefit of a clear view, either at street level or by creating a standout feature as part of a premium all-glass curved façade.”

“With our range of glass products and advanced coatings, optimum performance and aesthetics can be achieved by creating different compositions that provide varying levels of reflection, solar control, thermal insulation and light transmission,” explains Kovacs. “Whatever architects desire, we can help select the most suitable glass composition for that particular building project.”

If architects require almost zero reflection, an IGU with 1.2% reflection and high light transmission can be configured, where all glass surfaces are coated with Guardian Clarity™.

The use of Guardian UltraClear™ low-iron glass with Guardian Clarity™ increases light transmission and neutralises the green colour of standard glass leaving a crystal-clear appearance.

If thermal insulation is required, Guardian Clarity™ can be combined with Guardian ClimaGuard® low-emissivity glass, whereby reflections can be slightly increased and Ug values reduced.

High selectivity solar control glass Guardian SunGuard® can be combined with Guardian Clarity™ to look stunning and transparent, with almost no colour shift at any viewing angle, even if the glass is curved.

Guardian Glass produces high performance glass for architectural, residential, interior, transportation and technical glass applications. As experts in glass, Guardian

Glass team members work every day to find new possibilities and to make these come to life through its products. Guardian Glass products have been transforming urban landscapes for decades and is used in some of the world’s best-known buildings such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
