This capability of SageGlass will allow architects and building owners to specify a variety of geometrically shaped tinting zones on a single pane of glass – from triangles, trapezoids and parallelograms; even chevrons, diamonds and other shapes.It lets them configure and control unique patterns of tintable glass for optimizing daylight while creating unique building envelopes.
Not only can different geometric zones be configured on a single pane of glass, SageGlass can also be produced in non-rectangular shapes, allowing for a variety of shape-in-shape tinting zone options. SageGlass is also available in several different glass colors, making the design combinations nearly limitless.
Achieving accurate and uniform tint levels across non-standard shapes can be a significant engineering challenge for traditional solar control mechanisms such as shades, and impossible with other dynamic glass products.

Having broader shape and tinting options eliminates the all-or-nothing tinting trade-offs that architects may have to weigh when evaluating dynamic glazing for their designs. SageGlass is electronically tintable glazing that maximizes daylight and outdoor views in buildings while controlling glare and heat gain. It can darken or clear, manually or automatically, to save energy and help keep building occupants continuously comfortable throughout the day.
LightZone™, which is proprietary to SageGlass, allows building occupants to change the tint in different sections within a single pane of SageGlass to any available tint level. The unique pattern that is on display at the AIA Convention 2015 show in the SageGlass booth (#4051) is an example of the dynamic capability of this technology.
SageGlass can be zoned in any configuration desired: within a window pane or by individual window, row, column, room or building orientation. These zones can be programmed to tint automatically in response to changing light conditions using light sensors, or to tint on-demand using an iPhone/Android wireless app, manual switches, or building management system integration.
Not only does this variable control provide greater flexibility for managing solar heat gain and glare, it also allows users to improve “light blending” to achieve a warmer, neutral color rendering a feeling of natural light in the indoor environment.
