Saint-Gobain Glass France recently carried out a successful trial at its Aniche plant, integrating a bioliquid from the wood industry as an alternative energy source in the manufacture of flat glass for the building sector.

A significant step towards decarbonization

The three-day trial provided an opportunity to substitute 30% of conventional energy sources with this bioliquid, leading to a significant reduction of over 80% in CO₂ emissions (scopes 1 and 3) compared with the usual use of natural gas*.

This initiative is in line with Saint-Gobain Glass' ongoing efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of its glass products.

An ongoing commitment to sustainable production

In 2022, the Aniche plant had already marked an important milestone by achieving the first production of low-carbon flat glass (scopes 1 and 2). The plant produces ORAÉ® low-carbon glass, designed to reduce its carbon footprint by limiting greenhouse gas emissions throughout its life cycle.

Towards carbon neutrality by 2050

This successful trial is in line with the Saint-Gobain Group's roadmap, which aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 (scopes 1, 2 and 3). The Group is thus demonstrating its determination to innovate for less carbon intensive production and to support the energy transition in the construction sector.
