Vitro Architectural Glass is proud to share that its next generation VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) has been honored by R&D Magazine as a recipient of a prestigious 2025 R&D 100 Award.

Celebrating 63 years of excellence, the R&D 100 Awards recognize groundbreaking advancements in science and technology. This year’s submissions showcased innovative contributions from across the globe.

The next generation of VacuMax™ VIG is manufactured exclusively with Solarban® 70 solar-control, low-e glass by Vitro, providing a substantial 79% U-value improvement, and world-leading R-values of up to R20, rivaling the performance of traditional walls. VacuMax™ VIG delivers thermal insulation performance that is 3-5x better than conventional insulating glass and up to 20x better than monolithic glass.

The sleek, lightweight design of the VIG unit allows for seamless integration into traditional glazing systems, window frames and curtainwall applications, making VacuMax™ VIG an ideal solution for renovations and retrofits. Beyond its impressive thermal performance, recent advancements have enhanced its visual appeal by removing visible vacuum ports and subtly concealing "getters," resulting in a cleaner aesthetic.

Additional VacuMax™ VIG performance benefits include:

  • Longer life compared to competitive VIG products
  • Increased acoustic performance for dramatic noise reduction
  • Generous window-to-wall ratios without sacrificing performance or occupant comfort
