The Made in Italy in the glass sector is recognized for excellence. The combination of craftsmanship, innovation, technology and design represents a significant competitive advantage, especially in emerging markets where demand for high-quality products is steadily growing.
According to the latest statistics, Italy ranks ranks fourth among the world’s top exporters of hollow glass products, with an export value of €2.5 billion in 2022.
This leadership, however, goes beyond finished products: Italy is also one of the world’s top exporters of glass processing machinery, thanks to a highly specialized sector that combines technological innovation, construction quality and a strong export-oriented mindset.
Emerging markets: new frontiers for Italian export
According to SACE's “Doing Export Report 2024”, Italian exports are expected to reach €679 billion by the end of 2025, with an average growth of 4% over the next two years. Among the most promising emerging markets for Made in Italy there are:
- India: set to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, India is making major investments in infrastructure and urbanization, which is increasing demand for quality construction materials, including glass.
- UAE and Saudi Arabia: these countries are diversifying their economies, focusing on sectors such as tourism and luxury construction. Demand for architectural and decorative glass is growing, offering great opportunities for Italian companies.
- Vietnam: with continuous economic growth and steady urbanization, Vietnam represents an expanding market for glass products, especially in the construction and interior design sectors.
Italian leadership in the glass machinery sector
While the quality of Italian glass products is renowned worldwide, the machinery used to create these products — starting from the raw glass sheet — is equally appreciated. A 2023 study by the GIMAV Research Centerhighlighted Italy’s strengthened position among the world’s leading exporters of glass processing machinery, with export values exceeding $225 million.
A distinguishing feature of Italian companies lies in their ability to focus on cutting-edge innovation and technology while maintaining flexible, customizable production tailored to specific client and industry needs. The integration of artificial intelligence, advanced sensors, IoT interfaces and automation into grinding, bevelling and washing machines has made Italian production lines synonymous with efficiency, reliability and safety.
