Lithium Designers is an architecture and facade planning office based in Frankfurt, Germany. We are involved in the planning of complex facades and building envelopes using parametric design and 3D-printed facade nodes.
We fill the gap in the planning process between design and manufacturing. We offer a full planning method, from design to manufacturing, without interruptions in the planning process. With that, we are able to minimize mistakes and the possibility of inconsistencies between the design and the final product.
Over the years, we have realized several versions of our 3D-printed nodes. Usually, we have a topology optimization to minimize material usage. However, our last client requested not to see the optimization. Therefore, we managed to get our last update with full coverage. This way, you can see perfectly smooth surfaces from outside, and the topology optimization is completely hidden inside the node.
Over the last two years, we managed to stabilize our software, upgrade our nodes to have hidden optimization and upgrade our connection to the profiles. We also widened the profile systems that we can use. For instance, we managed to connect three different cross-sections into one node. And this is a unique solution on the market that can merge three different cross-sections of profiles.
In 2023, GPD was a perfect place to share our innovation and our technology. We had a really amazing chance to place ourselves with the industry leaders and tell more about our technology. And when I got the chance to be here again in 2025, I saw it as a perfect opportunity to tell how far we have gone with our technology. For example, we finished our first international project. At the moment, we are still waiting for a release to tell more about that project, so please stay tuned.
One big surprise over the last couple of years was to realize how many possibilities there are to utilize our technology. And it’s also surprising to see that some people are still looking at innovations in a bit of a defensive way. They know that a “better” solution exists but want to see more to be confident in utilizing it.
I see such events as perfect venues to tell that your technology is stable enough.
Ours is the future for a huge reduction in CO2 emissions when it comes to construction. Plus, the circularity of the product is amazing. We can just build the complete facade; it can serve its time, and then we can recycle everything.
