The fifth edition of the Challenging Glass conference on Architectural and Structural Applications of Glass took place in Ghent last 16th and 17th June, and Gerardo Masiello, CEO at Studio Masiello Strutture, presented two different projects by his Italian firm.

The first one, entitled “Design of a Glass Walkway in the Historical City of Pisa using Jumbo Glass Slabs” presents a glass pedestrian walkway connecting two important historical buildings in Pisa, rea lised with laminated jumbo glass slabs as main load bearing structures.Click here to read the complete article.The second article is entitled “A 6 Metre Long Glass Footbridge for the Ancient Public Slaughterhouse of Pisa” and presents a glass footbridge whose running surface and balustrades are made of laminated glass.The most notable element is a 5,790 mm beam which was designed and tested using analytical and numerical modelling and validated by experimental tests and a load test.
