Saint-Gobain Glass has been named the winner of the ‘Sustainability initiative of the Year’ category at the prestigious G24 awards.

The UK glass manufacturer was recognised for its leadership and investment in advancing industry-wide sustainability initiatives, in addition to implementing and supporting its pioneering Glass Forever pre- and post-consumer flat glass recovery and recycling programme.

Glass Forever is a circular economy approach to sustainability, and by collaborating with its customers and partners, Saint-Gobain Glass actively diverts waste glass, known as cullet, from landfill and remanufactures it into high-performance flat galss at a specialised facility in Eggborough.

The Glass Forever programme aims to increase the volume of cullet used in Saint-Gobain Glass’ production and help the company achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Mike Butterick, Marketing Director at Saint-Gobain Glass said: “Glass Forever embodies our dedication to minimising CO2 emissions throughout the lifecycle of the product to help reduce resource consumption, and preserve natural resources through long-term sustainable practices. Supported by our state-of-the-art cullet recycling plant at Eggborough, completed in 2023, this €4.5 million facility transforms waste glass into high-quality, reusable glass, ready for remanufacturing into new high-performance windows. This process significantly reduces our reliance on virgin raw materials, enhances resource efficiency, lowers CO2 emissions, and sets a benchmark for sustainability in the flat glass industry.”

Saint-Gobain Glass’s efforts demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainable innovation and collaboration, establishing the company as a leader in environmentally conscious practices within the glazing sector.
