A new, more flexible solar-control windscreen product attracted visitors to the Pilkington stand at the recent FIAA bus and coach exhibition in Madrid.

The e-seal screen uses a PVB interlayer impregnated with special particles to reduce the amount of heat penetrating the screen. "It has some similar properties to our established Siglasol product," said Pilkington Automotive Finland sales director Tuomo Palviranta.

"But Siglasol has an internal interlayer, with a metallic coating, which is held between two PVB interlayers. This imposes some limitations on complex double curved shapes and coach designers today are demanding ever larger windscreens with more complex shapes. E-seal will be much easier to use in this way."

The annual four-day Madrid event is one of the largest specialist bus and coach exhibitions, attracting visitors from across Europe and South America.

"It was a very successful exhibition for us," said Tuomo. "Apart from our own stand, our product was also on show on around 75 per cent of the vehicles displayed there. We are very clearly the leader in the bus and coach glass market."
