In May 2021, the United Nations formally agreed to endorse 2022 as the International Year of Glass, following a campaign supported by almost two thousand letters from 85 countries.

So, 2022 is an opportunity to celebrate all things ‘glassy’ and recent social isolation has left a thirst for group activities. Our flagship event is the Opening Ceremony in the Palace of NationsGeneva from 9-11th February 2022. This will showcase an array of internationally recognized speakers primed to place Glass at the heart of the UN 2030 Humanitarian Goals.

The audience will include important political figures and noteworthy members of the glass community, although in numbers possibly restricted by COVID. The proceedings will be live streamed for those unable to attend and available later as a recording. A book highlighting the same aspirations will be released simultaneously.

We are committed to financing the Opening Ceremony without recourse to Fees. So, the support of our endorsers: institutions, companies, artists and educators is vital. A fundraising campaign has been launched through our websitehttps://donate.iyog2022.org/; individual donors can participate using PayPal or Stripe (credit or debit card). After completing your data, you will receive the corresponding invoice by email.

We are now focusing our campaign on companies, associations and institutions able to support IYOG with larger gifts. Such donations will be invaluable and will decide whether we can proceed. The attached booklet lists ways to give support, by sponsoring specific aspects of the event. Alternatively, you can become a ‘Friend of IYOG’. All gifts will be formally acknowledged and much appreciated.

Many other events are also planned: trade fairs, conferences, magazine articles, exhibitions in art galleries and museums, talks, factory open days, newspaper articles etc.

For more information, the donations tool and news items see our website. Shortly links to key contacts and a searchable database of planned activities will be added. Do take every opportunity you can to make your colleagues and friends aware of what is happening, speak to your local press, radio and TV service and use social media to pass on the news. To join a mailing list please register your interest on the web www.iyog2022.org.

Administration has rested largely on the International Commission of Glass with considerable assistance from the Community of Glass Associations (COGA) and the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Glass (ICOM-Glass). Additional assistance is always welcome.
