Exchange for NEW Thermobar Warm Edge Spacer

Date: 12 January 2011

Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) guidelines state that spacer bar can be exchanged within the scope of a registered Window Energy Rating (WER) providing it is deemed as a ‘same’ or a ‘better’ performing product.

NEW Thermobar warm edge spacer bar from Thermoseal Group Ltd has such low thermal conductivity values that it should be exchangeable within registered Window Energy Ratings (currently without a charge) for any other spacer bar on the market. Thermobar is also ideal for achieving the standard 1.6W/m².K unit as accepted by FENSA guidelines.

Mark Hickox, Sales Director at Thermoseal Group introduces the characteristics of Thermobar: “Having spent the past three years on research and development, we are proud to introduce Thermobar warm edge spacer into the UK market. This new bar is constructed using a specially formulated engineering plastic which, unlike many other warm edge spacer tubes, is designed to be used in combination with most sealant types. It bonds exceptionally well with hot melt butyl sealants which are the predominant choice of sealant for the UK market.

“A specially designed tape is bonded to the sealant contact area on the Thermobar to provide a moisture and gas resistant barrier. This gives a massive advantage over systems using stainless steel or Aluminium foil. The insignificant thermal conductivity of this tape, combined with engineering plastic means that ‘A’ rated windows will be easily attained with the correct frame and glass combinations.

“We have also introduced Thermobar LITE warm edge spacer which is essentially the same bar, but without the gas barrier tape. This bar is the lower-cost option for sealed unit manufacturers where their customers wish to achieve an energy rating without gas filling. Thermobar LITE is only suitable for use with hotmelt secondary sealant and is not for use in gas filled units.

Thermobar has a total Psi value of 0.13 W/m².K. All the fittings including a bespoke locking corner key (which has no steel pins) will be manufactured here in the UK to keep costs to a minimum.
