This year marks the 10th anniversary of Sparklike Laser Portable™, a major milestone in the development of non-destructive gas measurement for insulating glass units.

Sparklike’s laser-based journey began with early solutions such as Sparklike Laser Standard and Sparklike Laser Online. These first-generation products introduced laser gas measurement to the glazing industry and laid the technological foundation for future developments. While highly accurate, they were designed for fixed or integrated use and reflected the production environments of their time.

The launch of Sparklike Laser Portable™ in 2016 marked a significant step forward. For the first time, manufacturers could verify gas fill non-destructively in laminated, coated, thicker, and triple-glazed IGUs wherever measurement was needed: on the production floor, in laboratories, or on site.

As IGU structures became more complex and gas filling increasingly automated, Laser Portable enabled manufacturers to maintain transparency, compliance, and consistent quality without damaging the glass. Over the past decade, it has become a trusted quality control tool worldwide, supporting reliable gas fill verification and helping ensure that IGUs deliver the performance they are designed for.

Ten years on, the principle remains unchanged: don’t assume gas fill — measure it.
