Thermoseal Group Shortlisted for a Manufacturing Innovation Award

Date: 5 March 2014

The UK’s leading manufacturer of warm edge spacer systems - Thermoseal Group, has been shortlisted for a MADE in the North West Manufacturing Innovation Award.

Winners will be announced on 27 February 2014 at the North West Business Insider Magazine’s Awards Dinner at the Park Royal Hotel in Warrington.

Thermoseal Group has been shortlisted for the award for its dedication to manufacturing and innovation.  The Group has invested over £5 million in research, development and a modern manufacturing plant in Wigan to manufacture market-leading insulated glass sealed unit components – namely Thermobar and Thermoflex warm edge spacers and accessories.  This self-funded investment includes the set-up of its own Innovation Centre, purchase of additional buildings, manufacturing equipment, and the employment of a production team which has almost doubled the number of staff employed by the Group.

Gwain Paterson, Managing Director at Thermoseal Group comments:  “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award.  The decision to manufacture wasn’t taken lightly and we are working hard on developing new products.

“As part of our commitment to innovation, we worked on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with a key national university to ensure that our products are developed and tested with the best knowledge resources.  In addition, we have invested a substantial amount of money in setting up our own innovation centre to develop and test the products that we supply.

“It is with the learning and development that we have taken from the KTP that we have since employed the material specialist from the university and invested over £250K on laboratory equipment for our innovation centre.   We are the only UK insulated glass components supplier with in-house testing to EN1279 industry standards for our customers.  This ensures that we can test the performance of our components within glazing units to ensure that we are producing premium products. We are now set to develop new products to meet and exceed future requirements for energy efficiency and help our customers to make more thermally efficient units.”
