Lewmar completes £1m installation of state of the art glass tempering plant

Date: 17 April 2015

Lewmar is pleased to announce the completion of its ultra-modern tempering plants in the UK for marine glazing.

Every piece of equipment has been carefully selected for quality of manufacture and added features not currently available in the Leisure Marine sector, namely a full colour ceramic printer which has the capability to print 1440dpi full colour images on glass as well as standard frit, including gold and magenta.  This cutting edge equipment allows interior designers to freely add depth to internal glass features and splash backs. It also opens up added features with external glass bar tops and tables.

The tempering furnace has been customised to accept soft coating glass that is more prevalent in today’s supply market and as such guaranty stability of supply and cost control. A state of the art high speed cutting table and break out table have also been added to the grinder and water softened glass washer. The laminating oven is specially tailored to the interlay for a seamless manufacturing result.

“Everyone that has visited the plant during the installation and commission has commented at the level of detail Lewmar has gone to make this plant cutting edge and up to date in every feature” said Jeremy Usher General Manager for Lewmar Glass and Glazing division. “Suppliers mentioned it’s not often they see complete new lines going in and how exciting it is to see the ground breaking level of equipment that is in the Lewmar Line up” added Usher.

Lewmar has already shipped flat, printed and curved glass to major UK and European OEMs and the order book is filling in fast from customers the world over including the USA.
