NGA expands Advocacy & Technical Services department to accelerate member services.

The National Glass Association is pleased to announce the expansion of its Advocacy & Technical Services department with the addition of Karen Wegert as Associate Director of Technical Services. Ms. Wegert most recently worked for Tesla in Buffalo, NY, and Schott in Louisville, KY. During her tenure at Schott, Ms. Wegert served on the Glass Association of North America’s Fire-rated Glazing Council, now part of the NGA Fabricating Committee.

“The glass and glazing industry’s important role in an increasingly complex building environment demands stronger technical representation and know-how from its trade association,” said Nicole Harris, NGA President & CEO. “The addition of Karen to NGA’s staff will accelerate development of technical resources for our members and our stakeholders, including architects and building owners, who depend on us to articulate what can be achieved through glass.”

In addition to overseeing NGA’s technical committee activities and expediting the technical publication process, Karen will set up a building codes hotline for NGA members. She will also serve as staff liaison to several industry standards development organizations, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

“I’m delighted to have Karen join me and our codes and standards consultants, Tom Culp, Thom Zaremba and Nick Resetar on NGA’s Advocacy and Technical team,” said Urmilla Sowell, Advocacy & Technical Director, adding, “we will make a greater impact on both internal and external initiatives with her help.”

Karen’s official start is September 16, however, she will attend the Fall Conference in Toledo, OH, for one day to get re-acquainted with members and the post NGA-GANA combination committee structure and activities.
