A challenge and an opportunity for glass world

Promoted by ICG, Community of Glass Associations and ICOM-Glass, the Spanish mission at the UN led the application for an International Year of Glass (IYOG) in 2022.

We have presented all the documentation required by the UN to justify the proposal. The IYOG project developed widely generating support from research centres, Universities, glass producers, suppliers and end-users across the globe. Not only are science and technology included; museums, educational establishments and art galleries will play a key role in displaying glass history and the potential glass has as an enabling material in building sustainable and fairer societies.

A campaign to garner support has been highly successful: over 1500 endorsements from 79 countries and every continent. The Resolution was finally approved by the GA of UN on 18th May 2019 with 19 countries acting as co-sponsors. A program of glass-related events in science, technology, art and history is just confirmed.

It includes hundreds of activities at international and national levels in education and in research and development, together with exhibitions created by museums, industry, academia and glass associations. A detailed information about the update of the project will be provided accepting questions and discussion.

This session will be hosted by Alicia Durán, President of ICG.
