Glaverbel has once again been selected for a major architectural project in the city of Barcelona: the building that will serve as the new headquarters for the Gas Natural group (construction cost: €65 million).

Located in part on the site of a former gasworks in the city's Barceloneta district, the building facade will be clad in 18,000 m2 of Stopsol Supersilver grey and Stopsol Classic solar clear control glass, supplemented by low-emissivity Planibel TopN. This pairing yields a highly energy efficient facade combining excellent insulation (U value: 1.4 W/(m².K) with the protection needed to cope with solar light and heat (solar factor: 21%). Aesthetically, the reflective nature of the Stopsol coatings creates a very special play of light.

The new headquarters of the Gas Natural group covers 49.480 m2 (parking included). The plan, produced by Enric Miralles (who died shortly afterwards) and Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT), was selected in 1999 following a tough competition involving architects based in Barcelona.

Once again, Glaverbel has demonstrated its ability to handle a major building project, a key factor of which is compliance with stringent sustainability criteria designed to promote high levels of energy saving as well as user wellbeing and comfort.
