On 5 September, Glass for Europe was in Buenos Aires at SISTECCER, the biggest event for the glazing industry in Argentina.

SISTECCER gathers architects, engineers, flat glass manufacturers and processors, material providers and experts from the building sector from all over the world, to discuss about the last technologies in glazing and the global trends in architectural design.

Bertrand Cazes, Secretary General of Glass for Europe, was invited to provide a European perspective on trends in building glass. In his presentation, he provided an insight into the main EU policies and regulatory tools supporting the upgrade of glazing’s energy performance such as the minimum performance requirements set in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directives (EPBD) and the project for the deployment of a European Energy Label for windows.

The presentation also included the results of the study on CO2 and energy savings potential of glazing that Glass for Europe commissioned to TNO. Speeding up the renovation of building is a sine qua non if the EU aims at being the first climate neutral continent by 2050.

The increase in window and glazing renovation will represent a big challenge for the flat glass industry, but also an opportunity of growth. It was interesting to identify the many similarities in challenges when promoting energy efficient glazing both in Argentina and Europe, while taking stock of the differences in starting points.
