From 1 to 5 July, the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (eceee) held its summer study around the Lac d’Ailette (France).

The conference provided Glass for Europe with a valuable opportunity to engage in dialogue with academics, policymakers, and industry representatives on topics such as heating and cooling needs of buildings, the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), and the role of energy-efficient measures to mitigate current high energy prices.

Over the course of five days, the eceee 2026 Summer Study brought together experts from across the energy-efficiency community to exchange insights on the latest research, policy developments, and market trends. The conference took place just one week after the deadline for the transposition of the recast EPBD, creating a timely backdrop for discussions on the future of building performance and energy efficiency in Europe.

Representing Glass for Europe, Sustainable Construction Manager Adrien Carton participated in the panel session Design Strategies for Summer Comfort in Buildings. During the session, he delivered a presentation entitled Assessment of Glazing Performance under the Recast EPBD: Implications for Summer Comfort and Building Resilience. The presentation examined the EPBD’s guidance on the energy performance calculation of transparent building elements and highlighted the role of high-performance glazing in enhancing summer comfort and strengthening building resilience in a changing climate. The presentation sparked a lively exchange with participants on how best to optimise glazing performance and translate the Directive’s requirements into effective national legislation.

Beyond the formal sessions, the conference offered numerous opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and establish new contacts with stakeholders involved in building energy performance. The discussions held throughout the event are expected to contribute to future collaborations, research activities, and policy initiatives in which Glass for Europe may play an active role.
