Keynote Speaker | The Case for Better Daylighting

Dr. Jennifer Veitch will lead a keynote session called, “The Case for Better Daylighting and Views in North American Buildings.” Veitch is an environmental psychologist and lighting research advocate. As a researcher at the National Research Council of Canada’s Construction Research Centre, she led research into the effects of indoor environment effects on health and behavior, becoming best known for her work on lighting quality in relation to human performance, health and satisfaction.

She will lead this session about daylighting research, which has demonstrated that light plays a vital role in our health, mood, performance and sleep. Windows and skylights can provide both daylight and views, but North American building codes largely overlook these health benefits. This presentation will examine the growing evidence for daylight as a public health priority and calls for building codes to recognize daylight and views as fundamental requirements for healthy buildings.

Panel Discussion | Exploring New Solar Heat Gain Requirements

During a panel discussion about navigating new solar heat gain requirements in the National Building Code (NBC) of Canada, experts Jeff Baker (WESTLab Canada), Lisa Bergeron (JELD-WEN) and Paul Bush (Vitro Architectural Glass) will explore recent code changes within the NBC related to solar heat gain. Together, the panelists will explain why and where the requirements apply and discuss the three available compliance paths.

Participants will gain insight into key performance metrics, including the relationship between solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), U-factor and Energy Rating (ER) and how these factors influence glass package selection and overall product functionality. From code compliance to product development, this session will provide valuable guidance on navigating the evolving landscape of energy performance and fenestration manufacturing.

Join L.P. Champagne of the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for an insightful discussion exploring the latest regulatory and political developments affecting Canada’s construction and building products industries. Moderated by FGIA Canadian Codes and Advocacy Director Amy Roberts, this dynamic session will provide timely updates on Canadian regulatory activities, new government programs and policies, the status of CUSMA negotiations and other emerging issues shaping the business landscape.

From evolving trade policies and legislative initiatives to provincial funding programs and political forecasts, participants will gain practical insights into what is happening now, what may be coming next and what it could mean for the fenestration and glazing industry. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and be part of the conversation.

Registration

FGIA members can take advantage of discounted pricing and register for the conference for a fee of $1,050. Non-members may register for $1,600 before August 7, or $1,800 after that date. Spouses and guests may be included in events for a fee of $225 per person, or they may opt for the all-inclusive upgrade, which includes evening events and all meals, for $450 each.
