The European Skills Championships also offer exciting prospects for the glass industry and the glazing trade.
From 22 to 26 September 2027, Düsseldorf will become the meeting place for Europe’s best young skilled workers. At EuroSkills, the European Skills Championships, young talents aged between 18 and 25 will demonstrate their skills. Around 800 participants from 36 European countries are expected to compete in around 50 competition disciplines. Around 150,000 visitors are expected to attend the event. For the first time, Germany and Luxembourg are jointly hosting EuroSkills.
Experience vocational training first-hand
From 23 to 25 September 2027, the competitions at the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition centre will take centre stage. Whether robotics, mechatronics, the skilled trades or digital technologies: the participants will tackle challenging tasks and demonstrate the skills required in modern professional fields.
The competitions will be complemented by hands-on activities under the title ‘Try-a-Skill’, where young people in particular can try out various professions for themselves. Discussion forums, conferences and exhibition areas will offer further opportunities to find out about training, qualifications and the world of work of tomorrow.
What significance do EuroSkills hold for the glass industry?
Many of the skills showcased are also relevant to companies in the glass industry and the glazing trade. Disciplines such as mechatronics, industrial control engineering, robotics and Industry 4.0 draw on skills that are becoming increasingly important for automated and digitally networked glass production processes.
In the skilled trades, there are links to areas such as window and façade construction, woodworking and structural engineering. EuroSkills thus highlights just how closely traditional craft skills and modern technologies are intertwined.
Inspiration for training and securing skilled workers
The shortage of skilled workers also poses challenges for the glass industry. This makes it all the more important to inspire young people to take an interest in technical and craft-based roles at an early stage and to show them the opportunities for career development.
EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027 addresses precisely this: it showcases vocational achievements, promotes appreciation for skilled trade work and brings together young talent, businesses and educational institutions. For businesses, it offers ideas on how to present apprenticeship programmes in a practical way and attract young talent to a career in the industry.
As the host, Messe Düsseldorf is creating the framework for the European Skills Championships. Under the motto ‘SKILLS! Shape Your Future’, one central message takes centre stage: tomorrow’s skilled workers will shape the future of our economy.
