XsunX Transparent Solar Cell on Thin-Film Plastics Moves Closer to Ushering in a New Generation of Energy Efficient Buildings

Date: 9 June 2005

XsunX, Inc., developer of Power Glass(tm) -- an innovative solar technology that allows windows to produce electricity from the power of the sun, announced today that its recent development of transparent solar cells on thin-film plastics has moved the Company closer to its goal of having its Power Glass(tm) technology used in the design and construction of modern buildings.

The Company's Power Glass(tm) initiative is driven by the growing worldwide interest in the building integration of renewable energy systems.

The process of integrating energy producing technology into building design and materials is known as Building Integrated Photovoltaics or "BIPV." In the use of BIPV technologies, the solar power elements actually become an integral part of the building, often serving as the exterior weathering skin. The Company is working to commercialize its Power Glass(tm) technology for applications in the worldwide architectural glass and building material markets as a BIPV technology.

The rising demand for electrical power generation sources is fueling the robust growth in international markets of installed solar electric systems. In the U.S., this demand is anticipated to grow substantially from less than 0.4 GW in 2003 to 200GW by 2030. This growth in installed solar systems would equate to the same amount of new solar electrical production by 2030 as having built 40 new large nuclear facilities. For an approximate comparison, a large nuclear power plant generates about 5GW of power.

"Electrical power generation is rapidly becoming an issue of not how much fuel is needed to meet growing power generation demands, but rather the cost of building new power generation facilities, distribution networks, and dealing with the environmental impacts," said Tom M. Djokovich, CEO, XsunX, Inc.

XsunX believes that the use of inexpensive plastics to produce rolls of thin-film transparent solar cells may represent a high degree of commercial viability to the multi-billion dollar glass and high performance coatings industry. The use of plastics is very prevalent in the thin films industry for the manufacture of non energy producing films that control solar heat and UV rays in windows worldwide. The Company intends to integrate the use of these types of films into the scalable aspects of its patented reel-to-reel manufacturing process to produce rolls of transparent solar cells.
