Thermobar and Thermoflex achieve top Passive House Ratings

Date: 9 October 2015

Thermoseal Group, the UK’s leading manufacturer of warm edge spacer systems and supplier to the insulated glass (IG) industry for over 35 years has achieved top Passive House Institute (PHI) ratings of phA for Thermobar warm edge spacer tube and phA+ for Thermoflex silicone rubber flexible warm edge spacer.

These are both ratings for the coldest Arctic Climate and all regions with lower requirements.

The PHI is an independent research institute with the only internationally recognised, performance-based energy standard in construction.  The PHI has played a crucial role in the development of the Passive House concept and has since assumed a leading position with regards to research on the development of construction concepts, building components, planning tools and quality assurance for especially energy efficient buildings.  It holds a Database of Certified Passive House Components which are rated and classified based on hygiene and efficiency within the criteria of a Passive House. See www.passiv.de and select ‘Component Database’ for a full list of rated components and their relevant certificates.

Thermoseal Group’s Sales Director Mark Hickox submitted the Group’s spacers for ratings and shares his thoughts:  “Achieving the highest Passive House ratings is yet another indication that Thermobar and Thermoflex Warm Edge Spacers are the most energy efficient rigid and flexible spacers available on the worldwide market.  Thermobar and Thermoflex also both have Bundesverband Flachglas Data Sheets detailing their thermal performance of 0.14W/mK and 0.135W/mK respectively.  They are, of course, fully tested to EN1279 standards and many additional worldwide standards.

“We are delighted with the thermal performance of our products and also the quality and consistency we maintain through our spacer bar manufacturing sites which are monitored and developed in line with our innovation centre.  We are currently installing various new production lines to increase the capacity of our warm edge spacers to meet the demand from an influx of international enquiries we have coming through.  Achieving PHI certification now is excellent timing as it rates our products to an internationally recognised standard and puts our products where they belong – at the top of the scale!”
