The event, held in the framework of the International Year of Glass, explored the new trends and the role played by glazing in designing a more sustainable built environment.

“High-performance glazing in EU building policy” was the topic presented yesterday, 28 August 2022, by Glass for Europe at the seminar “VIDRIO Y SUSTENTABILIDAD: Contribución del vidrio en el diseño eficiente” organized by VASA and AGBC (Argentina Green Building Council) in Montevideo, Argentina.

The event, held in the framework of the International Year of Glass (iYOG2022), explored the new trends and the role played by glazing in designing a more sustainable built environment. Luca Oggianu, Public Affairs and Communication Manager at Glass for Europe, presented the challenges and opportunities that the EU transition toward a climate neutral economy brings for the European flat glass industry.

High-performance glazing are today a net-carbon product in buildings. They allow to save energy and CO2 during the operational use compensating the emissions which occurred during the manufacturing phase. As new buildings become more and more energy efficient, energy consumption is no longer the only criteria to be considered when evaluating the sustainable performance of buildings. For this reason, European flat glass manufacturers are working hard to keep on reducing the CO2 emissions of their installations.
