For the first time in the UK, approved, purpose-made, aluminium fire-resisting  windows that are identical in appearance to standard windows are now available as  part of the expanding AWS range from Schüco International.

Their clean modern  look, complete with concealed fittings, is in sharp contrast to the ungainly adaptations  of fire doors offered by other window manufacturers.

The new windows, known as AWS 60 FR 30 and AWS 70 FR 30, offer  automatic self-locking in the event of a fire, but can also be specified with a holdopen  function for use in combination with a smoke detector. Both types have 30-  minute ratings and have been tested in accordance with EN 1634 for spread of flame  and EN 1364 for protection against heat radiation.

The windows are available with either a 60 mm or 70 mm frame depth and can  be fitted directly into a wall opening or integrated into Schuco’s FW 50+ BF or FW  60+ BF fire façades. The inward opening side-hung vents are available in sizes up to  1300 mm wide and 1900 mm high.  In terms of thermal insulation, weather-tightness and noise reduction, the new  windows perform identically to the rest of the Schüco Window AWS range. In addition  to these products, Schüco can also supply tested and approved window solutions for  natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation (SHEVS) that comply with the EN 12101-  2 standard.
