Urmilla Jokhu-Sowell Begins Term on ASTM International Board of Directors

Urmilla Jokhu-Sowell, vice president of advocacy and technical services for the National Glass Association (NGA), has started her three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.

ASTM International’s board is made of 25 leaders from a variety of companies, associations, universities, government bodies, and other organizations around the world.

Jokhu-Sowell, MSCE, PE, as a vice president of NGA, is part of the largest trade organization of its kind in North America. She joined ASTM International in 2007, serves as the secretary for the glass and glass products committee (C14) and the second vice-chair for performance of buildings committee (E06) and is the subcommittee chair for C14.01 and E06.52. 

With more than 25 years of experience, Jokhu-Sowell’s leadership with NGA has been instrumental in shaping industry standards, best practices, and technical education. Her efforts have led to collaborations with global organizations and nurturing relationships that drive the industry forward.

As a representative of NGA, she has taken on pivotal roles in key national and international glass-related bodies, including the American Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), ASTM International, Glazing Industry Code Committee (GICC), and International Standards Organization (ISO). 

Jokhu-Sowell received both her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University and is a licensed Professional Engineer (FL).
