SCHOTT Makes Glass Grills a Reality at HPBExpo 2015

Date: 6 March 2015

SCHOTT will showcase glass-ceramic now commercially available in grills and ROBAX for fireplaces - SCHOTT’s concept grill is now a reality, as a number of barbecue manufacturers will feature glass-ceramic in their grill designs at the HPBExpo 2015.

SCHOTT, the international technology group, will showcase its glass-ceramic for grills and grill accessories at the expo in Nashville, Tennessee from March 5 to 7, 2015 at booth #2122.In addition, SCHOTT will demonstrate the design range of ROBAX® glass-ceramic windows for fireplaces and stoves.

The next generation of barbecues to offer glass-ceramic lids to consumers has arrived. Glass-ceramic grill lids can be seen in barbecues like the SABER EDGE, which will launch at HPBExpo 2015. Heat-resistant glass-ceramic from SCHOTT can withstand the intense heat generated in grills, while allowing grillers to monitor the entire cooking process.

Several other manufacturers will display grills and accessories featuring glass-ceramic from SCHOTT. SCHOTT will also show concept glass-ceramic grill lids that demonstrate the range of potential lid sizes and shapes.

“No longer will backyard grillers have to open the lid just to keep an eye on what’s happening with their meals,” said Karen Elder, Marketing Manager & Global Product Manager, NEXTREMA for BBQ at SCHOTT North America.

“These SCHOTT glass-ceramic lids can withstand the scorching temperatures of grills, offer clear views despite smoke and grease, and are easy to clean, so barbecuers can easily keep an eye on their steaks, burgers, and kebabs.”

Additionally, SCHOTT will display ROBAX glass-ceramic for fireplaces, which brings a new level of clarity to indoor fireplaces and woodstoves, while radiating heat uniformly throughout a living space.

ROBAX maintains clear views into fireplaces and can be manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes, as evident in SCHOTT’s industry-leading 270-degree fireplace panel and wave-like designs. The curved glass fireplace designs that are popular in Europe are slowly trickling into U.S. homes, and these curved glass panels can be engineered to seamlessly integrate into the design of a home. ROBAX TrueView, an anti-reflective coating, enhances the views of the heart of the fire by making the glass nearly invisible.

“ROBAX glass-ceramic has moved us well beyond the tempered glass of the past,” Elder said. “It doesn’t just sit in front of a fireplace. ROBAX is in front of the industry, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with glass-ceramic. ROBAX is also in front of design trends, allowing home designers to incorporate flush lines, flowing shapes, and crystal-clear views into the fireplace. From form to function, fireplaces are better with ROBAX in front.”
