Discover how Fives is turning these ambitions into results.
Pioneering technology in all-electric melting
All-electric furnaces are a green alternative to traditional technologies. Prium® E-Melt, an all-electric furnace for different applications, minimizing CO2 emissions while preserving high quality.
Recently, VICAL, a Central American manufacturer of glass containers, selected Fives for the design and supply of the world’s largest all-electric furnace for its production facility VICESA in Costa Rica. Fives will also supply the equipment for the complete hot end, including a working-end and forehearth system. The new installation will support cleaner and more efficient glass production at the VICAL facility in Costa Rica, a country where the carbon footprint of electricity is one of the lowest in the world.
Pochet Group, a key partner of the luxury industry specializing in glass packaging for perfume, skincare and make-up, installed an all-electric furnace from Fives at its Guimerville site, which has a history of over 400 years. This is the first electric furnace in France for luxury glass packaging.
Verallia, the world's third largest producer of glass packaging for food and beverages, has invested into the electrification of its Cognac plant in France with all-electric melting technology pioneered by Fives. The Prium® E-Melt cold-top vertical melter, which produces 180 tonnes of glass per day - equivalent to 300,000 bottles of flagship Cognac brands - was inaugurated in September 2024. The new furnace reduces CO2 emissions by 60% at the plant level.
Cristallerie Saint-Louis, one of the world's most prestigious crystal houses, electrified its glass production process by installing an electric vertical melter from Fives. This custom-built furnace was designed to meet the most demanding crystal quality requirements and significantly cut CO₂ emissions at the facility.
Groundbreaking hybrid melting technology
Fives has designed Prium® Eco-Flex, a flexible hybrid furnace that can be adapted to unique production needs. The furnace operates primarily on electricity, with as little as 20% of its power coming from combustion.
Verescence, a global leader in luxury glass packaging for the perfumery and cosmetics industry, partnered with Fives to decarbonize glass production in France. This involved replacing an existing furnace with new hybrid oxy-gas technology and installing a next-generation electric forehearth at the Mers-les-Bains site. The new furnace is already operational, and it is the world's first glass hybrid furnace for cosmetics applications. This project is part of Verescence’s ambitious decarbonization roadmap, which includes significant investments to electrify industrial equipment.
Engineering excellence for float glass lines
Fives also designs and supplies key forming equipment for float glass lines for architectural and automotive applications.
Şişecam, a global leader in glass manufacturing, has successfully commissioned its greenfield TR9 float glass line in Tarsus, Türkiye, featuring Fives tin bath design and next-generation equipment, including the annealing lehr. With a production capacity of 1,200 metric tonnes per day, the TR9 line ranks among the highest-capacity facilities worldwide.
