A seminar on "Healthy and Sustainable City Development" was held by CTBUH (Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat) at the Phoenix Center in Beijing in November 2020. NorthGlass participated in the seminar to discuss the integration of curtain wall glass and sustainability of city development, contributing to the development of the construction industry.

The theme of the seminar is “healthy and sustainable city development”. The construction of healthy and sustainable city is an inevitable and important issue in the process of urbanization and the hottest potato in the field of architecture in the world. As the process of urbanization acceleration, how to build “low carbon, green, environmental and sustainable" city has become the most important issue in urbanization construction. CTBUH international seminar came together practitioners from different industries about city development to share practical experience and successful ideas in all aspects of architectural city design and to explore a healthy and sustainable future city aspiration.

The seminar was chaired by Ms. Jiaqi Qu, Deputy Director of CTBUH China Office, and Mr. Carlos Gomez, Chairman of AIA Beijing Branch and Design Director of Gensler and Mr. Weiping Shao, Chief Architect of BIAD made wonderful reports.

Mr. Chunchao Li, marketing director of Tianjin North Glass Industrial Technical Co., Ltd, gave a speech on “when materials meet designers who know them”. He extended from the properties of glass materials to the possibility of NorthGlass through vivid cases of cooperation with architectural designers. Designers can use the glass properties of absorbance, transmission, reflection to give it life. Glass system is very rich, and Mr. Li hoped the glass will be innovated through the imagination of architectural designers and NorthGlass together.

There are many cases of NorthGlass in recent years: Huawei, OPPO stores, Hong Kong Swire and other super-large safety glass, intelligent sunshade glass of Beijing Daxing International Airport collected by National Museum of China, small radius semi-tempering glass of National Speed Skating Oval, air cushion glass of Shanghai Nike001 flagship store, and all above high-quality glasses not only have beautiful appearance, but also pay more attention to energy conservation and environmental protection, compared with the traditional curtain wall glass in environmental protection performance. Innovation of NorthGlass provides the possibility for designers to build new and different buildings, and NorthGlass also has been working hard to promote the sustainable city development.

The seminar was accomplished successfully. And the participation of many well-known manufacturers in various industries made the seminar fruitful. In addition to the creative exchange between architects, it also provided a platform of technical cooperation and display for the material suppliers.
