HORN presents VARI-DRAIN®, an innovative drainage system designed to improve glass quality by removing contaminated glass from the forehearth bottom.

By helping to prevent defects such as cat scratches and alumina cords, the system supports more reliable production and increased profitability.

VARI-DRAIN® enables the controlled removal of glass enriched with contaminants such as zirconia and alumina. Its PID-controlled temperature regulation ensures a precise and constant glass flow, with drainage capacities ranging from 0.4 to 2.0 tonnes per day, depending on glass viscosity.

Available in directly and indirectly electrically heated versions, the system can be adapted to different production requirements. Additional cooling air distribution also allows the glass flow to be stopped when necessary.

Flexible Solution for Different Glass Applications

HORN VARI-DRAIN® is suitable for the production of container, tableware, cosmetic and lighting glass in standard colours. Its key features include:

  • Controlled drainage of contaminated glass from the forehearth bottom
  • Reduced risk of glass quality defects
  • Precise and constant glass flow through PID-controlled temperature regulation
  • Drainage capacity of 0.4–2.0 tonnes per day, depending on glass viscosity
  • Direct or indirect electrical heating options
  • Additional cooling air distribution to stop the glass flow when required

By effectively removing contaminated glass, VARI-DRAIN® helps manufacturers improve product quality and optimise production efficiency and profitability.
