The Windows installed at Varndean College were completed with fully featured Ovolo detailing and a deep bottom rail option which gives the authenticity of a timber box sash.

Supplying 250 vertical sliding windows for a refurbishment project at Brighton’s Varndean College may not be out of the ordinary for Mercury Glazing Supplies, but when the project’s remit required its customer, Lancing Glassworks Ltd, to install 250 windows during term time, it meant that the installation had to be undertaken without disrupting school life.

Steve Cross, managing director, at Mercury Glazing Supplies, picks up the story: “Access was potentially an issue on this project as rooms had to be sealed off in a co-ordinated manner to minimise disruption to classes. Lancing Glassworks set about compiling a schedule of works where deadlines were agreed by all parties, including Varndean College’s senior management team”.

Steve Cross, explained: “We are predominately a Spectus Window Systems fabricator. Since the company was established in 2002 we have come to recognise Spectus as a strategic partner we can trust to deliver the right profiling at the right time. Having such confidence in our profile provider enables us to tackle the larger projects like Varndean College.”

The Vertical Sliding Window marries traditional design with advanced technology providing the perfect solution for period properties such as the historic Varndean College.

The project required a vertical sliding solution that would not only complement the Victorian surroundings but would also be adaptable to the different sizes, complex arches and specific Georgian bar layouts that needed to be achieved.

The Windows installed at Varndean College were completed with fully featured Ovolo detailing and a deep bottom rail option which gives the authenticity of a timber box sash.

The Varndean College project was completed on time and to schedule, causing little disruption to college operations and daily academic life.
