The NGA Glass Conference in Ann Arbor gathered industry leaders for three days of updates, education, and key announcements, including the new Glass Engineering Curriculum and the C.G. Carney Award.

NGA Glass Conference: Ann Arbor took place this week, Sept. 29-Oct. 2 in Ann Arbor, MI, welcoming over 100 attendees. The conference featured committee meetings and updates from the Forming, Fabricating and Advocacy committees, plus networking and technical education over three days. During the conference, NGA announced it is developing the NGA Glass Engineering Curriculum, its first program of study that will bring architectural glass education to university students. Read more about the curriculum. 

Plus, NGA presented its highest honor, the C.G. Carney Award, to longtime industry leader, John Kent, president of Administrative Management Systems Inc. Read more about the award ceremony.

Session Highlights

NGA Volunteer of the Year, Robert Carlson, Tristar Glass, presented Using AI to Optimize Work and Life.

Following the Forming Committee meeting, Joe Lange, Senior Energy Analyst at the City of Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations presented the city’s A2Zero building sustainability plan. And Jeff Zeman, True North Collective, led a discussion on glass sustainability and transparency.

Robert Hart, LBNL, and Stephen Morse, Michigan Tech University, gave a presentation on Thin Glass, including fabrication and handling considerations, safety glazing testing, certification from John Kent and Kristin Best of Administrative Management Systems Inc. (AMS), and next steps.

The event ended with a sneak peek of the Glazing Industry Code Committee (GICC). All conference attendees were invited to join GICC members and NGA Code Consultants to learn how to influence updates to the model building and energy codes and meet the GICC Executive Committee.
