Registration is now open for the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance's FGIA 2021 Virtual Western Region Summit to be held August 24.

The summit will feature expert speakers from key Western states to discuss critical legislative and code topics related to Washington’s chemical regulations, California’s Prop 65 and Title 24 and updates for wildland urban interface areas and energy conservation in the region, plus a panel discussion on innovative labor practices in a post-pandemic environment.

“This event is specific to those affiliated with the FGIA Western Region, which means each presentation and speaker was selected with that region’s interests in mind,” said Janice Yglesias, FGIA Executive Director. “We are proud to be able to share critical information on several codes matters as well as regulatory discussions.”

This one-day virtual event will start out with a look at Washington State’s new laws regulating chemical use, led by Lauren Tamboer of the Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program in the Washington Department of Ecology. Following this, Crystal L. Sujeski, Deputy State Fire Marshal III at the California Office of the State Fire Marshall, will present “How Enhanced Wildland Urban Interface Codes (WUIC) Can Help Protect People and Property.” Then, a panel discussion about California’s Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, will be moderated by FGIA’s Kathy Krafka Harkema. After the panel discussion, Hope Medina, Energy and Green Code Consultant at Shums Coda Associates, will present “How the IECC Has Become a Tool for Communities to Achieve Their Goals.”

In the afternoon, Payam Bozorgchami, Professional Engineer (PE) and Senior Civil Engineer at the California Energy Commission, will present “What You Need to Know About Proposed Changes to California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards in Title 24 Impacting Fenestration, Glazing and Building Envelope Design.” Before the end of the day, Krafka Harkema will moderate a final panel called, “How to Adapt Plans Following the Pandemic to Attract and Retain Employees in a Challenging Labor Market.”
