Reuterts reported that Pilkington, the UK-based unit of Japanese glassmaker Nippon Sheet Glass, said on Friday it had launched legal action against Mexico's Vitro  over a move to merge a unit Pilkington part-owns into another company.

Pilkington said in a statement that it started proceedings against Vitro to try to suspend and annul the company's decision to merge its Vitro Plan unit -- in which Pilkington owns 35 percent -- into Vimexico, a new company.

Vitro S.A. and Pilkington established a partnership in 1965

Pilkington said it was not consulted on the move, which would dilute its stake to 8.2 percent.
