ISO-CHEMIE, one of Europe’s leading producers of foam sealant tapes for windows and doors, has secured international energy-efficiency and sustainability certificates for three of its products.

Two of the company’s ISO-TOP WINFRAMER thermal insulating and load bearing bracket systems and ISO-BLOCO ONE multi-purpose joint sealing tape have all received certification from the prestigious Passivhaus Institute for Passivhaus products.

ISO-TOP WINFRAMER is a pre-fabricated installation frame, which enables installers to fit windows into the insulation area between the inner and outer walls quickly and easily, avoiding the need to use metal brackets that cause non-repeating thermal bridging and give extensive problems when the windows need replacing.

The product was tested against various comfort criteria and classified as Passivhaus efficiency class phB, reflecting its outstanding energy efficiency values.

The versatile ISO-BLOCO ONE is used to provide an effective gap seal to accommodate expansion and movement, and is the first joint sealing tape to gain the ‘Certified Passivhaus component’ certificate in the ‘Airtight systems/window connection’ category.

Andy Swift, the UK National Sales Manager, said the achievement reinforced the products’ outstanding thermal values, ensuring they are ideal for use in passive energy installations.

He added: “ISO-CHEMIE has a strong commitment to providing customers with high quality innovative products, so these latest Passivhaus awards are another significant achievement for us.”

The Passivhaus standard is characterised by high energy savings combined with enhanced comfort compared to conventional new-builds and renovated properties. This requires the use of particularly energy-efficient components, in addition to careful and detailed planning.

As an independent body, the Passivhaus Institute tests and certifies products with respect to their suitability for use in passive energy houses. Products bearing the ‘Certified component' quality seal have been tested against standardised criteria, have comparable characteristic values and offer excellent thermal quality.

With its certificates for Passivhaus components, the Institute also increases the visibility of the products’ tested thermal characteristics.

These characteristic values play a significant role in ensuring that a building subsequently achieves the energy savings that were forecast using an appropriate energy balance software package, such as the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP). This is a reliable design aid for architects and a quality assurance tool for project owners.
