This year, Intersolar India unveils the first Intersolar AWARD nominees in the category Solar Projects in IndiaMumbai/Pforzheim/Freiburg, October 22nd, 2012: Intersolar, the world's leading exhibition series for the solar industry, has this year expanded the Intersolar AWARD to include the category Solar Projects.

In addition to the existing categories of Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal Technologies and PV Production Technologies, outstanding projects are this year being honored for the first time in the category Solar Projects in India. The best entries in the new category have now been nominated for the Intersolar AWARD, and the prize is being presented in a ceremony at Intersolar India's Innovation Exchange in booth 1180 at 4:00pm on November 6.

On June 13, 2012, the Intersolar AWARD for the categories Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal Technologies and PV Production Technologies was presented at Intersolar Europe in Munich. The prize pays tribute to particularly innovative products and developments from across the solar industry. The Solar Projects category made its debut in 2012.

The launch of the Solar Projects category this year was heralded by the first award for Solar Projects in North America, which was presented during Intersolar North America on July 10, 2012.

Following the successful start in North America, the Intersolar AWARD is now being presented for the first time at Intersolar India for the category Solar Projects in India. The organizers were very impressed with the Indian solar projects that were submitted for the Intersolar AWARD and an independent jury nominated eight projects from the entries.

Projects were eligible for submission from three different fields. In the topic of Off-Grid Solutions, the jury was looking for projects that stood out thanks to their innovative use of solar energy in generating off-grid electricity. Here, particular attention was paid to increasing quality of life, boosting productivity and promoting education. The topic Industrial and Commercial Use sought projects where solar energy is used for industrial production or to supply buildings that are used commercially. The third topic comprised Utility-Scale Projects, such as commercial PV installations and large-scale PV power plants.

Evaluation criteria

Exhibitors at Intersolar India 2012, Intersolar North America 2012, Intersolar Europe 2012 and Intersolar China 2011 were entitled to submit entries for the category Solar Projects in India. To be shortlisted for the Intersolar AWARD, projects needed to use solar energy in a pioneering and unique way. Further criteria on which the jury based its decision included the ways in which the projects are beneficial to the environment and society, their economic advantages and their degree of technological innovation. The award ceremony for the new Solar Projects in India category takes place at the Innovation Exchange of Intersolar India in Mumbai at 4:00pm on November 6.
