FIT Show Event Director Nickie West explores why trust, transparency, resilience and active industry engagement matter more than ever in the fenestration sector.

The fenestration industry is facing difficult questions.

Recent events have reminded us that behind every business story are real people, families, customers, suppliers and communities. When a major company fails, the impact reaches much further than the organisation itself.

It is natural that the industry is asking questions about resilience, responsibility, transparency and the standards businesses should uphold.

Those questions matter.

Strong industries are not built on products alone. They are built on trust, professional relationships, reliable partnerships and a shared commitment to doing business responsibly.

That is why trade shows matter. They create a visible, face-to-face environment where businesses meet customers, suppliers, peers and the wider industry. They provide a platform to demonstrate products, but also to demonstrate commitment.

Being present at FIT Show is a commercial decision, but it is also a statement. It says that a business is active in its market, engaged with its customers and prepared to stand alongside the wider supply chain.

We hear regularly from exhibitors that not being at FIT Show raises questions. If they are absent, their competitors will be there. Their customers will be there. The conversations influencing the future of the sector will be taking place there.

That does not mean exhibiting is a guarantee of business performance or an endorsement of every company’s conduct. It does mean that FIT Show provides a trusted and impartial platform where businesses can be visible, accountable and part of the conversation.

Ethics should not be an occasional discussion. They need to remain part of the way our industry operates - in how businesses treat employees, customers and suppliers; how they communicate; how they manage risk; and how they contribute to the wider sector.

Trade associations and industry bodies have an important role to play here. They provide guidance, technical expertise, professional networks and opportunities to raise standards. We want FIT Show to work with those organisations and support a stronger, more informed and more responsible industry.

The role of FIT Show is to bring the market together impartially. That includes exhibitors, visitors, associations, media, educators and the many businesses that make up our supply chain.

Our job is to create the platform. The industry gives it its meaning.

So, as we look ahead to FIT Show 2027, I would encourage every business to think about what its presence says. Are you visible? Are you engaged? Are you contributing to the conversation? Are you showing customers and partners that you are committed to the future of the sector?
